Fifth Assignment

1.) I think the project the author is trying to get across is that people should maintain relationships and communicate. In real life I am not close to my father at all. I haven’t seen him in 2 years. Also telling the truth is very important. Jokes and tall tales are okay but always in moderation. If you are always telling false stories or ‘fish stories’ then people will lose the sense of who you really are.

2.) I think the Main conflict in the story is character vs. other. William( Edward's son) is trying to figure out who his father is before he dies.(Edward dies) The only details about his fathers life he knows is through the jokes and tall tales that he was told as a child.

3.) I think the conflict is appropriate for the project becauses it really relates to real life situations. Life today isnt like it is portrayed in the movies, where all families are perfect and happy. I think that Edward and William could easily be real life characters. The arguments and issues described between them are so prevelant today. Maybe though if people are more accepting and leave well enough alone then there wouldn't be as much problems. You cannot force someone to tell what they do not want to.

4.) The story also portrays character vs.self . Maybe Edward feels that he never was good enough being just ordinary so he made up stories to make him feel like his life was more special. Also he is always proving to himself that he can accomplish bigger things that he needs to do more.So it seems like he is strugglin to prove to hmself that he he is good just the way he is and doesnt need to make up fish stories.

fourth Assignment

1.) I picked a symbol. The symbol I chose was written while william was describing the life of his father. Though out the book, Edward's life is described. Here is the sentence; "By his twelfth year...he new more than anybody... He was a big fish even then." I think the word 'big fish' in this sentence means that he was built for bigger things.Even though he was born in a small town, he was meant for a better life. Like he wanted to do more and be more in life. I think the elements job is to tell that even young ones can know what they want in life and if they continue pursuing their dreams than they can accomplish them.

2.) I guess BIG FISH could stand for a metaphore. He is not really a fish but like a gold fish it can either live in a small tank and remain tiny, but it grows and adapts to larger enviorments. It could mean that he is easily adaptable but also alwyas needing to grow. No matter what he is accomplishing he always nedds to do more or 'grow more.

3.) I thikn the relationship between Edwad Bloom and his son William are really important throughout this book. The book doesnt really describe a close relationship. Instead there seems to be alomst a fairy tale relationship or a stroy book relationship So, William only knows what his father tells him. All the stories that Edward has told may not have happend, but they are the only ones that he knows of his father. It kind of shows that even not so close realtives have a closeness that isnt really noticed.
Big Fish is kind of a mysterious fantasy about a father and sons retalitonship. The book is really easy to understand. I found it easy to pick and recognize what is what.

I am not quit sure about the project yet. I am still searching.

Third Assignment

1) I have to say that I have never read a book with this kind of adventure and imagination. There is however some parts
that seemed familiar. The book is about a son’s journey about finding who his
father really is and about his father’s life. I have heard of similar plots. Big
fish is full of imagination and adventure though.

2) I think what makes my book original is the mind of the author. His creativity
throughout the book is unique. Sure there are other writers out there who have
written similar ideas but I haven’t read any so it is original to me. Still some
of the plot and characters have been used in other storied whether they are
exactly the same or altered.

3) I think that whatever people write is new to them. Even though there are already comedies, dramas, and thrilling
books their own version of the plots are new to them. So it may not be a bran
new plot but their version of it is new.

Second Assignment-Character

1.) I think the main character of this book is Edward Bloom. The book is mainly about his imagination and what he sees. Edward is a caring and adventurous individual. He cannot stay in one place very long, he has to see more. Throughout the book it flashes back to real life while he is dying and talking to his son William. All of the stories that William knows may or may not have happened. Their bond kind of grows through-out the story. Throughout the book, he tames giants, saves mermaids, takes care of an old lady, grows three feet in a few hours and meets a two headed lady while at war. He also can run really fast and never stays in one place for two long.(pages 30-on)

2.) In a way I am king of like Edward. I love to travel and see new places. I haven't yet seen a giant or mermaid though. When I was little I used to love fantasy books and movies like Cinderella and the Little Mermaid. I do also have quite the imagination sometimes and I often daydream.

3.) If I were Edward, I would probably see lots of color and images. The surrounding in the book is often sunny and green with an occasional dark woods or something like that. The smell I would relate is like fresh cut grass or just after it rains smell. Also I think I would hear classical music like piano or violin. I remember from Alice and Wonderland all the strange creatures in the forest. I guess that some of those would exist in my head. I guess I would feel happy that I can do what I can and that I get to travel where ever I want to and make up anything. It is kind of like making up your life as you go.

First Assignment

I choose to read Big Fish. I saw the movie a while ago and I didn't realize that there was a book. I want to see if there are any similarities. I also liked the story behind the book.
